Gateway to the Fouta Djallon
Vibrant Atlantic peninsula, Mandingo music and access to the mountainous interior of Guinea.
Conakry is the capital of Guinea, a long peninsula in the Atlantic home to nearly two million people. It is a port, a commercial hub and the gateway to the Fouta Djallon — the green massif that feeds much of West Africa with fresh water. Conakry is also the cradle of great Mandingo music: balafon, kora, ngoni and djembé were born here. Its Madina market is one of the largest in the region, and its street life never stops. 1 h 15 flight from Bubaque.
