Our home in the archipelago
Air Bijagos operational base. Capital of the Bijagós archipelago: unspoilt beaches, colourful markets, and the laid-back rhythm of the main island.
Bubaque is the most populated island of the Bijagós and Air Bijagos' operational base. Our daily flights to Bissau, Cap Skirring, Dakar and Conakry all take off from here. At just 8 km² and about 3,000 inhabitants, Bubaque keeps the unhurried feel of a tropical village, declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Its daily market, long beaches and drum-filled nights make it the best starting point to explore the rest of the archipelago.
What to see and do
Golden sand 3 km north of the harbour, palm trees and spectacular sunsets.
Fresh fish, tropical fruit, Bijagó crafts. Open every morning.
360° view of the archipelago from the island's only promontory.
Ancestral tradition every Friday on the main square.
